A volar Barton fracture is a compression injury that usually results from a fall onto an outstretched, pronated wrist. It is characterized by an intraarticular marginal volar shearing fracture of the distal radius. Despite the prevalence of distal radius fractures, consensus regarding optimal treatment remains challenging. To achieve adequate alignment, a variety of treatment techniques are available, including open reduction with plate and screw fixation, external fixation, and closed reduction with pinning. Regardless of the method of treatment, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most prevalent complication that is commonly seen in distal radius fractures. Establishing an effective post-operative rehabilitation regimen, primarily comprising functional physiotherapy interventions, is vital to managing this condition. This case report discusses the management of acute CTS secondary to a volar Barton fracture, characterized by symptoms including pain, diminished strength and mobility of the wrist joint, and impaired grip strength and fine motor skills. The outcome measures utilized were the Upper Extremity Functional Index and the Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire. A customized physical therapy regimen was implemented, comprising cryotherapy, range of motion exercises, and grip strengthening utilizing a robotic glove. This tailored approach proved effective in promoting early functional recovery and improving activities of daily living.

In the human anatomy, the Achilles tendon (AT) is the strongest and largest tendon. Also, it ruptures the most often. Because it impairs the patient's ability to function adequately, a ruptured AT injury is a serious clinical issue. Reconstruction of the tendon through surgical intervention is the preferred approach to treatment in the case of tendon rupture. Establishing an effective post-operative rehabilitation regimen that mostly consists of functional physiotherapy measures is crucial in the management of AT rupture. In this report, we have presented the case of an AT reconstruction patient who complained of pain in the ankle region, reduced strength and range of the ankle joint, and loss of proprioception. The tailor-made physiotherapy protocol was incorporated, which included strengthening exercises, proprioceptive retraining, cryotherapy, and ambulatory training, which were found to be effective in facilitating early functional recovery.

Distal ulna and radius fractures are the most frequent upper extremity fractures seen in emergency rooms. The axis of rotation for forearm pronation and supination runs through the radial head (proximal) and the ulnar fovea (distal). Throughout pronation and supination, the radius can rotate relative to the ulna, thanks to the way its head articulates with it. The ulna remains relatively stable during these movements. However, in cases of fractures of these bones, surgery to repair the radius is usually the best course of action for a distal ulna fracture. Most distal ulna fractures heal successfully with only conservative treatment once the radius is stabilized. To achieve the best results, medical personnel must take into account patient characteristics including age, level of activity, and aspirations. The majority of distal ulna injuries do not require surgery, but there are several circumstances where it is necessary. In therapeutic practice, muscle energy techniques (METs) are comparatively painless methods for restoring a restricted spectrum of motion. Malunion, reduced grasp, and other significant problems might result from a lack of understanding of this illness. The 48-year-old patient in the present study was reported to have sustained injuries to his left forearm in a road traffic accident (RTA) as he fell from his bike and slid during a traffic collision. X-ray imaging of the left forearm revealed an isolated ulnar shaft fracture. METs, isometric contractions, and active concentric and eccentric movements were all part of the physiotherapy intervention protocol to produce an active range of motion in the upper extremity. In this particular case, the specified physiotherapy management was found to be effective.

Stroke is a common cause of death and neurological impairment. The largest artery in the brain is the middle cerebral artery. When this artery suffers a stroke from an abrupt interruption or cessation of blood flow, tissue dies, and severe, potentially irreversible brain damage occurs. Comprehensive assessments of stroke patients are required for proper care management, evaluation of interventions, and assessment of outcomes. With the development of new, efficient stroke treatments, it is of the utmost significance for nurses to take advantage of the chance to document stroke impairments and disabilities to track recovery and make plans for re-entry into society. We describe the case of a 50-year-old man with right hemiplegia. The brain CT made visible the left front parietotemporal region and the left insular cortex of the acute left-sided middle cerebral artery infarct. The patient received immediate medical attention. After the early stabilization of acute symptoms, physiotherapy treatment was started. The physiotherapy intervention given in this case enabled the patient to have a speedy and effective recovery. It helped improve his motor impairments and quality of life. Post-rehabilitation, the patient became independent in daily activities like brushing, bathing, eating, etc.

Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a highly fatal bone and soft tissue cancer that predominantly impacts adolescents and children. Primary ES can occasionally manifest as a tumour on the chest wall. Treatment typically consists of radiation, local surgery, and polychemotherapy, all of which have acute and chronic side effects that can detrimentally affect survivors' quality of life (QOL). In this case study, we discussed the case of a 19-year-old female who came with chief complaints of chest pain, swelling on the right side of her neck, difficulty breathing, and pain in her right shoulder radiating to her right arm and forearm for one year. She was diagnosed with ES of the chest wall and underwent chemotherapy treatment for the same at our tertiary care hospital. Our aim was to find out the role of physiotherapy, considering the radiological, pathological, and clinical aspects of the disease while the patient is undergoing chemotherapy sessions, which has been highlighted and found to be effective in increasing satisfaction levels, adherence to the treatment, improving muscle strength, lung function, and overall QOL.

Pseudoarthrosis of the tibia is an uncommon condition that occurs due to non-union of bone and typically requires surgery. It may cause fractures that develop spontaneously or after minor trauma. Physiotherapy is an excellent treatment for this uncommon condition. The tibia of the affected limb becomes malformed and bends backwards. This case report outlines the interdisciplinary programme adopted to successfully manage a 23-year-old female patient with right-sided tibial pseudoarthrosis. Following the implantation of Ilizarov's external fixator to correct the deformity, the patient was referred to the physiotherapy department for post-operative management. After the implementation of a tailor-made physiotherapy protocol focusing on proprioceptive retraining, significant improvements were seen in her joint proprioception, muscular strength and range of motion.

Pelvic fractures (PFs), involving the disruption of the bony structures in the pelvic region, are complex injuries often associated with high-energy trauma. Such fractures can significantly impact a patient's mobility and overall quality of life. Concurrently, fractures of the malleoli, specifically the lateral and medial aspects of the ankle, are common lower extremity injuries that can result from various mechanisms, including twisting or direct trauma. This case report presents the multidisciplinary approach employed in the successful treatment of a 26-year-old male patient with a rare combination of PFs involving both anterior and posterior columns, along with lateral and medial malleolus fractures. The patient underwent a series of surgical interventions to stabilise the fractures, followed by a tailored physiotherapy management plan. The report discusses the postoperative care strategies and the crucial role of physiotherapy in the rehabilitation process.

Encephalitis is an inflammatory condition of the brain parenchyma accompanied by symptoms indicative of brain dysfunction. A headache, fever, vomiting, altered state of consciousness, and, in some cases, seizures characterize varicella-zoster virus (VZV) encephalitis. Rehabilitation after the manifestation of neurological symptoms must be tailored, and a well-coordinated intervention must be formulated. The proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) technique is a widespread rehabilitation approach used to restore motor function. A 29-year-old male is presented in this case report with VZV viral encephalitis with complaints of generalized weakness, headache, and oromotor difficulties. This case report specifies the physiotherapeutic protocol, mainly focusing on the PNF approach. Patient's occupational requirements and enhancement in executing daily living tasks were the focus of the physiotherapeutic rehabilitation. The outcomes used were the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and Functional Independence Measure (FIM). We report a marked increment in muscle tone and strength, active range of motion (AROM), and significant enhancement in the individual's functional independence with physiotherapeutic protocol post-operatively.

A common ankle fracture that can have major consequences and expensive medical bills is the trimalleolar fracture. The trimalleolar fracture is the least frequent type of ankle fracture. The number of afflicted malleoli, the kind of fracture of the lateral and medial malleolus and the congruence of the ankle joint were all examined in detail for the trimalleolar ankle fracture. This type of fracture is brought on by high-energy trauma. In this case report, we describe a 56-year-old female patient who was involved in a road traffic accident. After being taken to the hospital for further examination, her ankle fracture was determined to be a trimalleolar one. She had an internal fixation with canulated cancellous screws and nails for open reduction. For such patients, we designed a physiotherapy course based on early rehabilitation and sensorimotor retraining to help with proprioception training, gait training and lower-limb muscular strength training. The lower limb's strength and range of motion were improved with the treatment. The outcomes used were the numerical pain rating scale (NPRS), functional independence measure (FIM), lower-extremity functional scale (LEFS), range of motion (ROM), gait parameters and manual muscle testing (MMT).

This case report investigates the impact of a specific chest physiotherapy technique on a patient with bilateral bronchial pneumonia secondary to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a life-threatening condition characterized by severe respiratory failure, and bronchial pneumonia can further complicate the clinical course. The chosen chest physiotherapy technique aims to improve respiratory function and alleviate symptoms in the context of this challenging scenario. ARDS can develop in individuals who are seriously injured or have other severe conditions. ARDS is characterized by insensitive cyanosis, declining lung compliance, and high morbidity in intensive care units. It is a complicated and accumulating condition that develops from acute damage to the lungs. The case involves a detailed examination of a patient diagnosed with bilateral bronchial pneumonia as a complication of ARDS. The application of a targeted chest physiotherapy technique is described, emphasizing its methodology and the rationale behind its selection. Through this case report, we aim to contribute valuable insights into the potential efficacy of the specific chest physiotherapy technique for managing respiratory complications associated with ARDS-induced bilateral bronchial pneumonia. The findings may have implications for clinical practice, guiding healthcare professionals in tailoring interventions for similar cases and optimizing patient care in critical respiratory conditions. Additionally, the report underscores the importance of individualized approaches in the management of complex respiratory disorders, highlighting the need for further research to validate and refine such therapeutic strategies. The report delves into the patient's response to the intervention, documenting any observable improvements in respiratory parameters, lung function, and overall clinical outcomes. There were numerous etiologists, and it frequently ended in intense respiratory failure; after that death, the majority of care is supportive and concentrates on treating the underlying cause as well as providing ventilation. Physical therapy should begin as soon as the ARDS is treated. In this case, we discuss and conclude the various aspects of physiotherapy interventions for bilateral bronchial pneumonia secondary to ARDS. Chest physiotherapy plays an important role in respiratory conditions for breathing effectiveness and to reduce airway resistance.

Autism is a disorder distinguished by significant challenges in social interaction and communication coupled with repetitive and stereotypical patterns of behavior and activities. Deficits in social interaction and language development become apparent before age three. In children, this condition is referred to as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Individuals with ADHD may struggle with sustaining attention, organizing tasks, and completing assignments. They may exhibit hyperactive behaviors such as fidgeting, difficulty staying seated, and impulsive actions like interrupting others. ADHD can significantly impact daily functioning and is often diagnosed in childhood, with symptoms potentially persisting into adulthood. The disorder has three main subtypes: predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined presentation. Treatment typically involves a combination of behavioral interventions, psychoeducation, and, in some cases, medication, aiming to provide support and strategies for individuals to manage their symptoms effectively in various aspects of life. Cognitive impairment in ASD varies, meaning it could be at the sensory perception level of cognitive processing, learning, and memory. The goal of the training intervention was to control physiological arousal, enhance awareness, keep annoyance from getting worse, and encourage self-regulation abilities. In this case report, we discuss the approach of multimodal physiotherapy for autism with speech impairment and attention deficit. Furthermore, physiotherapy needs to find a position in the new mental health care paradigm in order to contribute to mental health care.

Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect characterized by four distinct heart abnormalities, which include an overriding aorta (where the aorta crosses both ventricles), a ventricular septal defect (VSD), right ventricular hypertrophy (the right ventricle muscle is thickened), and pulmonary stenosis (the pulmonary valve and artery are narrowed). Individuals suffering from TOF may exhibit pinkness, cyanosis at baseline, or episodes of hypercyanosis. The pathoanatomy of the TOF allows blood from the pulmonary and systemic circulations to mix. Cyanosis is caused by the addition of deoxygenated blood from a shunt that runs from right to left to the systemic circulation. In this case report, we present a five-year-old female patient with a known case of TOF. The results were recorded using the Pediatric Quality of Life (PedsQL) Questionnaire, New York Heart Association (NYHA) Dyspnoea Scale, Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale, and arterial blood gas analysis. Therapy goals were to improve overall functional ability, to remove secretions from airway, and the return of acceptable cardiovascular function. This case report focuses on the success of the cardiorespiratory rehabilitation program based on the patient's current state of health. The outcome parameters confirm that patients can experience improved functional recovery.

The condition known as tendonitis, tennis elbow, lateral epicondylalgia, or lateral epicondylitis affects the radiohumeral joint and causes persistent, severe discomfort in the elbow. It commonly affects those who work in professions that need repetitive forearm motions, like athletes who play on courts, computer operators, and woodworkers. It tends to originate from additional rapid, tiresome, recurring eccentric contractions and activities that grab gliding joints. It commonly affects the dominant hand. This case report describes the author's seven years of experience living with lateral epicondylitis, including functional disability in day-to-day life, and then physiotherapy management was started. Mill's and Cozen's tests were performed, and lateral epicondylitis was confirmed. From 2023, the physiotherapy session, including active release technique and conventional therapy, was taken regularly for four weeks. The outcome measure score of the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was 7/10 pre-treatment and 2/10 post-treatment, and for the Patient-Rated Tennis Elbow Evaluation (PRTEE) scale, it was 50/100 pre-treatment and 25/100 post-treatment. The results that are reported from this particular case study suggest that physiotherapy has a significant effect in improving muscle strength, increasing range of motion, improving activities of daily living, and enhancing the overall quality of life. The study concludes a physiotherapist is crucial in treating these overuse injuries and returning the patient to their daily activities.
